Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Startup Culture @ ITM


National Innovation and Startup Policy (NISP):

The Innovation Ecosystem at Institute of Technology and Management, Gwalior is structured to ensure a seamless flow of support and resources for fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and startup culture. At the top of the ecosystem is the NISP, which provides the overarching policy framework in ITM to guide and support innovation and entrepreneurship within the institution. NISP lays the foundation for encouraging students, faculty, staff and alumni to pursue innovative ventures and startups, offering guidelines on funding, mentorship, intellectual property, and institutional support.


Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC):

Operating under the NISP framework, the EDC is the central body that drives entrepreneurial initiatives in ITM Gwalior. It focuses on fostering an entrepreneurial culture by providing resources, organizing workshops, and offering mentorship. The EDC acts as a bridge, connecting students with necessary tools to bring their ideas to life, and serves as the primary coordinator for innovation and entrepreneurship activities on campus.


Institution's Innovation Council (IIC):

Within the EDC, the IIC is dedicated to nurturing innovation, entrepreneurship and Startup Culture. The council organizes activities like workshops, training programs, mentorship programs, innovation challenges, and collaborations with external partners, ensuring that the institute stays at the forefront of innovation and entrepreneurship development.


ITM SPARK :

ITM SPARK is a student-driven platform under the EDC that encourages networking, idea sharing, and collaboration among students. It also organizes events to help students enhance their entrepreneurial skills and connect with industry professionals. SPARK is the hub for student innovation and plays a crucial role in transforming creative ideas into actionable projects.


Ideapad (Registered Business Incubator):

The Ideapad (Incubator) operates as a dedicated space within the EDC for students with promising startup ideas. It provides hands-on support to help scale their ventures, including seed funding, mentoring, technical resources, and networking opportunities. The incubator guides startups through the early stages of their development and helps them refine business models, gain market traction, and attract investors.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL (EDC)

Apart from technological and other activities of ITM campus, ITM has started ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL (EDC) to support the growth of students across the region, country and globe. Entrepreneurship is a key element in the industrialization and economic progress of a nation. The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) at ITM is established with a vision of fostering innovation and promoting entrepreneurial skills among students. At EDC, we encourage students to consider self employment as a career option, providing necessary training and learning for concept of Entrepreneurship and its exposure through Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp, Faculty Development Program and Skill development program. Entrepreneurship Development Cell strives to inspire and integrate a culture of innovation through a conducive entrepreneurial ecosystem to help budding entrepreneurs realize their dream to start up their own enterprises. The cell also organizes different activities and events time to time to train and motivate the students on entrepreneurship.


OBJECTIVES

The main objective of this cell is to train and motivate the Science and Technology (S&T) persons to become Job Creators rather than Job Seekers.


  • To inculcate the entrepreneurial culture into their minds and to Promote Innovation and to improve the managerial capabilities.
  • To be the leader in enabling and facilitating entrepreneurs.
  • Enlighting the sprit and energy of young students from ideation to start-up to establishment and scaling up with integrity and sustainability through constant guidance & mentoring through various programme and schemes.
  • To organize:
    • Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps (EAC)
    • Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDP)
    • Entrepreneurship Motivation Programs (EMP)
    • Faculty Development programs (FDP)
    • Skill development programs (SDP)
  • To assist them in starting industries of their own right from:
    • Product Identification (PI)
    • Field Survey, Methods for marking research
    • Creation and dissemination of new knowledge
    • Preparation of Project Reports
    • Participate in institution entrepreneur building efforts
    • Respond effectively to the emerging challenges and opportunities

The Cell has been encouraging the innovative ideas of students by providing technical support and introducing them to the appropriate change agents for further related interaction.


FUNCTIONS:

  • The Cell is an effective platform for the students to develop the entrepreneurial attitude as it organizes several Seminars, Workshops and student development programme through which they are provided an opportunity to meet eminent Entrepreneurs and Government Officials.
  • Visits are arranged for the Staff and Students for learning industrial activities.
  • Alumni, who have established their own Enterprise, are invited to share their experiences with the students regularly.
  • Staff Development Programmes are organized for the College Staff to inspire the students to become the leaders in the society by innovating and entrepreneurial spirit in them.


National Innovation And Startup Policy (NISP)

The ‘National Innovation and Start-up Policy 2019 for students and faculty in HEI's was launched by Former Minister of Education, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on 11th September 2019 at AICTE, New Delhi.


This policy intends to guide HEIs for promoting students’ driven innovations & start-ups and to engage the students and faculty in innovation and start up activities in campus. The policy aims at enabling HEIs to build, streamline and strengthen the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem in campus and will be instrumental in leveraging the potential of student’s creative problem solving and entrepreneurial mind-set, and promoting a strong intra and inter institutional partnerships with ecosystem enablers and different stakeholders at regional, national and international level. The policy is being implemented by MoE’s Innovation Cell and in coordination AICTE, UGC, state/ UT governments and universities. Implementation of policy has been undertaken for quick adoption by HEIs. The present policy is a way forward to the earlier version of AICTE’s Start-up Policy which was launched in the year 2016 to complement the Startup Action Plan under the Startup India and Stand-up India Program launched by Hon’ble Prime Minster of India.

  • Creation of ‘Innovation fund’ for supporting innovative projects and Start-ups by allocating minimum 1% of institution’s total budget
  • Academic break for a semester/ year to work on their startups Credits for working on innovative prototype/ business models
  • 2% - 9.5% Equity/ stake in startup/ company by Institute’s incubator
  • Complete Ownership of IPR by the inventors in case of non-usage of institute’s facilities/ resources
  • Services to be offered by institution in lieu of equity, fee based or zero payment model

Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC)

Ministry of Education, Govt. of India has established an ‘Innovation cell’ namely MIC with a purpose of systematically fostering the culture of Innovation in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country. MIC will focus on creating complete ecosystem which will foster the culture of Innovation across all educational institutions from ideas generation to pre-incubation, incubation and graduating from the incubator as successful start-ups. MIC also works on designing ranking system to identify institutions in the forefront of innovation. MIC works closely with the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to encourage the creative energy of our student population to work on new ideas and innovation and promote them to create start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures.

About IIC

Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) launched the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) program in collaboration with AICTE to systematically foster the culture of Innovation and start-up ecosystem in higher education institutions. The primary goal of this council is to inspire, encourage and nurture the young students for different activities involved in pre-incubation, incubation and making successful startups.

At the Institute of Technology and Management, we have established the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) to foster innovation, startups, and entrepreneurship. The IIC consists of professors, students, alumni and industry experts, all working together to create an environment conducive to growth and development. The council conducts quarterly meetings to plan and review activities, ensuring that students have ample opportunities to participate in innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives. These include competitions and events organized by both the Institute’s Innovation Council (IIC ITM) and the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC). Students are encouraged to interact with renowned entrepreneurs, experts, and academics, gaining valuable insights and mentorship. Additionally, the IIC supports students and faculty in experimenting with new technologies and creating prototypes, helping them build confidence in their ideas. This collaborative environment promotes a seamless journey from ideation to startup, providing a vibrant and dynamic platform for innovation and entrepreneurial success.

Incubation Center (IDEAPAD)

Incubation Center (IDEAPAD) Policy



IDEAPAD is the business incubator in ITM. It is envisioned that if various streams of ITM group and students concentrate on solving issues related to the region, their communities, the success of these experiments can be scaled commercially into an enterprise. There are over 7,000 incubators of different kinds around the globe. They create jobs, grow companies and help technologies evolve. ITM Business and Incubator Foundation, established in 2021, is dedicated to helping students transform their ideas into innovations, serving as a launchpad for entrepreneurial endeavors. IDEAPAD is being evolved around resources available in the ITM and will ensure their optimum utilization.
